The World's Most Famous Train
Apart from its claim to have the longest continuous records for unaltered departure time of any express train in the world, the history of the Flying Scotsman, or the ‘10 o clock’ as it was first known, is one of entrancing interest. First published by the LNER in 1925 this book tells its story, from the innovations of the Victorian railways to the luxurious journeys of the 1920s. A brief history is followed by a detailed exploration of the Scotsman’s changing routes, with remarks on the great stations, famous bridges and other notable features its passengers would have encountered. Many illustrations are included, attractive and quaint, the whole constituting a record which is worthy of “The World’s Oldest and Most Famous Express.”
