Although plastic is certainly a globally important product, there are many environmental concerns associated with its use.
In recent years researchers working in the field of civil engineering have been engaged in investigations about the reuse of waste plastic in construction. For the first time, in one comprehensive volume, the authors present a state-of-the art review on the application and use of recycled plastics in concrete construction. Divided over three parts, the introductory chapters begin by looking at the processing of plastic waste including techniques for separation, and production of plastic aggregates and recycled plastic fibers. The final Part looks at the manufacturing of concrete with recycled plastic fibres. There are chapters on the fresh properties of concrete with plastic fibres; the mechanical properties of concrete reinforced with plastic fibres; shrinkage of concrete with plastic fibres; performance of asphalt concrete with plastic fibres; properties of self-compacting concrete reinforced with polypropylene fibers and durability of recycled plastic fibre-reinforced concrete; freeze-thaw resistance of concrete reinforced with plastic fibres and life cycle assessment.
